How Host Dusk works

Everything you need to edit a listing: what each tool changes, how results and versions work, and how to get good photos out of it.

What each tool changes and keeps

Each run uses one tool on the photos you pick. The tool changes one kind of thing and keeps the rest of the place as it is.

Lighting

Changes: The sky, the daylight, and the light in windows and fixtures that are already there.
Keeps: The building, materials, landscaping, trees, cars, furniture and framing.

Tidy up

Changes: Dishes, cables, toiletries, papers, toys, towels, bins and other loose clutter.
Keeps: Furniture, walls, floors, layout, fixed fittings, wall décor, cars and the light.

Remove furniture

Changes: Movable furniture, rugs, loose décor and items; outdoor furniture on an exterior.
Keeps: Walls, floors, windows, doors, window coverings, built-ins, light fixtures and framing.

Lighting comes in looks, such as Dusk or Golden hour. Every photo is tagged Exterior or Interior when it uploads, so each look is applied the right way; if a tag is wrong, flip it on the photo before you run.

Remove furniture is made for homes for sale. On a rental, guests expect to see the furniture they will have, and listing sites remove photos that misrepresent a place.

Results, versions and the current version

Each photo in a listing is its original plus every result made from it. One of them is the current version: the latest result, or the original if there is none yet. Tiles, downloads and the next run all use the current version.

  • Open a result to compare it with the original: drag the line, press and hold the photo, or use the Before and After buttons.
  • Pick another version and choose Keep as current to make it the one that is used.
  • Regenerate runs the same tool and look again for 1 credit and adds a new version.
  • If you changed the current version while an edit was running, the new result is added as a version and your choice stays current. The result says “Added as a version; your current version was kept”.

Next and “Use latest results”

You can run one tool after another. From a result, or from a finished run, choose Next and a tool: the run setup opens with those photos selected and Use latest results on.

  • Use latest results edits each photo’s current version, as it is when that photo’s turn comes. A Lighting run started while a Tidy up run is still going picks up the tidied photos.
  • Use originals starts again from the photos you uploaded.

A common order: Tidy up the interiors, then Next: Lighting with the exteriors ticked too, so the whole listing gets the same light.

Your runs go one at a time, in the order you started them. A run waiting behind another says “Starts after your current run”.

Tips for good results

  • Start from your sharpest, straightest photo. The tools keep the framing, so a crooked shot stays crooked.
  • Shoot in daylight with the lights you want lit switched on: Lighting brightens lights that are already there and adds none.
  • Tidy up before Lighting. Fewer small items means a cleaner relit room.
  • Photos with people in the foreground may be refused; the credit comes back.
  • If a result invents or removes something, regenerate it or report it, and use the version that is right.

Listing sites and accuracy

Listing sites ask that photos show the place as it is. Edits can still get something wrong, so check each photo before you publish it: the building, the rooms, the views and the fixtures should all be the same place your guests or buyers will see.

Host Dusk does not repair damage or hide anything that is part of the place, and it does not add furniture or décor. Whether an edited photo fits a site’s rules is your call; read the rules of the sites you publish on.

Credits and plans

One credit is one photo through one tool, during the free try as well. A photo that returns no image refunds its credit automatically, and Stop remaining returns the credits of photos not started.

Every new account has 3 free-try credits. Free-try results carry a watermark until your account’s first plan. Plans add credits at the start of each period; packs top them up and never expire. See Pricing for the details.
